Build your own bow press?
« on: February 02, 2013, 10:21:04 AM »
I'm thinking about building a press similar to the one posted on Archery talk:

Have any of you guys built something like this?  I have a quote to get the steel brackets laser cut out of 3/8" steel, works out to $40 a pair.  I'd get a bunch made if there was interest locally from guys willing to buy them.

That would be pretty cool. I wanted to build one of those a while back but couldn't find someone to cut the fingers. Do you weld? it looks like there is a sleeve welded on that rides on the pipe. I went with a press made with a tie down. It was kind of nice because I had everything needed except for the adapters that go on the limbs. And I can just throw it in my bow case.

Not my pic but just like it.

I do weld.  I made my own bracket (still have to make the sleeve part) this weekend out of 2" x 3/8" steel.  It'll be nice to do some of my own work without having to bring it in to the shop.  I used plastidip to coat the fingers.

On parallel limb style bows like my Mathews Z7, I use one of my pipe clamps or bar clamps. It's designed for clamping and gluing wood but works just fine for my bow with a small rag on each end to protect the limbs.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I am having a buddy make me a set of these on his torchmate and he is willing to make a more if people are interested. Can be in bulk or in single sets

Just PM me if you want a set and I can pass along his contact information. He's in the Bothell area.
