Westside bear meat processor
« on: February 04, 2013, 07:26:27 PM »
Anyone have any recommendations for a good bear meat processor/butcher? I use Butcher Boys in Puyallup for everything else but don't know how often they process bear meat.

It might be far for you, but Farmer George in Port Orchard definitely accepts bear.  When I brought my BT in this past October, there were two boars hanging in the cooler.

There must have been 40 head of deer, plus the 2 bears, and no elk.  Nuttin.  They said they hadn't seen an elk yet at that time.  Tough times on the peninsula.

Stewarts Meats in McKenna, WA is ledgendary for their smoke house and wild game processing.  I had a bear done there they have pepperoni, beer snack, garlic snack and breakfast sausage.  i was impress that even fincky eaters enjoyed the meat.  I get all my game processes there.

Mt view has done awesome on all bears we've brought in. They make awesome bear hams that no one else compares to. I really like butcher boys for deer and elk, but never ended up taking a bear into there to get butchered. But both are great butcher shops. Mt view is by far the cleanest butcher I've been to. Love both shops treat family friends and I well. Not a big fan of Stewart's. there pep and jersey taste good but do not like the cut and wrap they do for my meat always comes back looking like crap. And i notice my meat to be more gammie flavoring which is not desirable. Never the case with any other butcher. Plus there customer service for wild game processing is as poor as I've ever seen. They have been very rude many times. I do like there general shop for getting beef and such. The general shop for customers seems like a whole different world. As far as my game goes I take the best care of my meat in the field and expect my butcher to do the same. That's why I recommend butcher boys and mt. View.

Mt. View did a bear for me a couple of years ago and it was some of the best summer sausage I've ever had!

I have had two bears from Golden Steer in Bellevue.  Both were good.
