I went with a 2013 Hoyt Spyder Turbo as my do-it-all bow.  Obviously, with this approach you give up (to a certain degree) the finer points that a usage specific bow would provide.  But those end-up being very small compromises in my book.  Other bows I consider were the Bowtech Insanity CPXl and the Athens Afflixtion.

A 34-35" bow with 7" brace will be a great all around bow. All brands are great and it's all about personal feel. Shoot a bunch of bows and see what feels best. Stay away from short light bows, no matter what anyone says they are NOT as stable or forgiving.

Mathews, Hoyt or PSE... you can't go wrong in that order...... shoot them all and pick the one that feels best to you

Hit as many bow shops as ya can.  Shoot as many bows as ya can.  Pick what feels good and shoots well for YOU, regardless of brand.
Last year, I shot 20 some bows that met my criteria, over a months time, before a narrowed it down to the final 3.  Didn't even want to know what they were till I narrowed it down. The final decision was based on how the shop treated me and the company's reputaion for taking care of it's customers. y
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.

I'm digging that spyder - I shot the baby brother the hoyt charger and I liked it well enough, so I need to get behind a spyder see if that 200 more dollars for the spyder (over the charger) is worth it.

I need to visit some more archery shops before I make a purchase.

I've never shot a matthews, kinda half scared too  :chuckle:

I'm gonna try to hit up Spokane Valley Archery see what they got in

Im loving my bowtech insanity so far. It shoots flat and fast and for a 6" brace it shoots way to easy. It does sink the arrows in the 3d targets a bit but its smooth and very accurate.

Got a chance to shoot the Hoyt Charger, Hoyt Carbon Element,  and Bowtech Experience today.
They told me the Sypder and Element are the same cams so they'd shoot pretty much the same.

Hard to really get a feel for them without a full setup and decent amount of range time  :dunno:

They put on a rest and I shot all three -without sights- at a target 5 feet away.

Wish I'd have had more time with each bow.

So far I like the Bowtech and Carbon element.

Is the Hoyt and Bowtech price fixed ?

Also found I really prefer a thumb release handheld - confirmed it really as I'd already been shooting one anyways.

28.5 draw length, maybe 29 with a handheld release and could go 28 inch with a wrist strap or the let-off sneaks up on me.

If you are buying new go through a dealer for bowtech. They dont let you register a bow bought from a online store. I paid 1k and change for my insanity but id say I was worth it cause its a pkeasure to shoot, the hoyt is nice too but just not what I like in a bow. Maybe find someone with the two you like and see if they will let you shoot them more.

A thumb release is what I shoot now and has been more accurate for me

update..

Come to find out someone restrung my bow wrong  :bash:
I had Cabelas post falls work it over after I had some brush pull a string off the cam.   They added some string silencers and a new peep.

The bow sat for a few years in it's hard case........

Then the other day I dug it out and looked it over, looked good so I pulled it back and WOWZA!!
That was a lot harder than I remember, strained my shoulder and back muscles.

So I took it to lady Red in Chewalah for a work over and new strings.  Added a string stop too and newer tube less peep.
This hummer is shooting nice now, and quiet.
I want to replace the sights though, I got a trophy ridge that's 10 years old and the pins are too easy to move (tool less) and the fiber optic tubes are brittle and one's broken.

I might just put off a new bow this year, if nothing else I got a nice backup bow.

Good news KF! Most of the new bows aren;t really all their cracked up to be.  Sure they're fast.  But too many of them sacrific what it takes to make them easy shooting for the sake of speed and name status.

Far too many people get rid of their past bows and have no back up at all.  I've made a good number of strings on the back tailgate of the truck for guys that didn't have a back up bow.  Accidents do happen.  And it's nice when an old friend can come out of the case and help you out when you need it.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

I just ordered myself a hoyt Snyder turbo for hunting.  I guess the vector turbo gets retired from hunting and is now just my 3-D target bow.
