You should have killed it if it was on ceded ground. Darn!

I saw some yearlings in the Ocean Shores area two weeks ago that had large bald patches on their sides, but I wasn't sure if this was part of them changing their coat over or if it was hair loss. Still new to Washington and learning these Blacktails. Is this something we should be reporting to WDFW?

It is so wide spread that the WDFW does not care any more.  Reporting it would just go in deaf ears.  This week alone I have seen deer with hair loss in Jefferson, Grays Harbor, Mason, Thurston, Pierce, Lewis and Pacific Counties.

O.K I am not Mr. biologist but I have to give my  :twocents: on this  :chuckle: I notice this pops up all the time around this time of year ..One thing a guy needs to realize is that deer are starting to loose their winter hair about now ...So this causes everyone to think they have a disease or something ... I seen some the other day and they looked like they had bald spots all over them ...the coyote I killed the other day was loosing his winter coat to .. Not saying I am 100% worth listening to but this is a fact and most likely the cause of the concern .... I never seen this in the fall or mid winter , just about this time of year and a month later ...then you do not see it much after ! :twocents:

PolarBear, did you stop at the toll both and pay before you entered Pacific Co. We have had deer in our yard since early Dec with the hair loss.

As long as you cook it well.  It is usually first year fawns that get it and unless it is a severe winter, they grow out of it by the end of spring.

Come to Goldendale and it is rampant in the deer around town.  And it isn't just losing the winter coat.  This is some nasty stuff that they get from being penned up in town to close to each other because they are afraid to venture out into cougar land.  I'm not positive what causes it, but it's not routine.  I will try to get a pic of one and post it on here.  There is a group of does hangin' out local and one has it.  There have been 3 eagles eating a carcass 137 yards from my dining table and I thought maybe it was her.  But she limped by with her sisters this afternoon.
