Copalis Bear Permits 2013 Questions (UPDATED)
« on: March 07, 2013, 05:57:05 PM »
1. Anybody else draw there?

2. Does anybody want to team up on a hunt?

3. Does anyone have any knowledge and tips on this permit?

http://rayonierhunting.com/

THE WHOLE REASON THESE PERMITS ARE NEEDED IS THE LAND OWNERS ARE HAVING HIGH CROP DAMAGE TO THIER TREES. SO IF A HUNTER KILLS A BEAR ON THIER LANDS IT SAVE THEM COUNTELESS TREES, THUS SAVING THEM MONEY (THOSANDS). ONCE I WENT TO THIER WEBSITE (SEE ABOVE) I REALIZED THIS IS A MONEY MAKING VENTURE FOR THEM. AND FROM THE POSTS I HAVE GOTTEN SO FAR THIER HUNTING AREA SUCKS ANYWAYS! HUNTERS SAVING THEM COUNTLESS TREE SHOULD NOT BE CHARGED TO DO THEM A FAVOR! :twocents:

I WILL NOT BE APART OF THE FLEECING OF HUNTERS THIS CO. IS DOING, SO THIS IS ONE PERMIT YOU WILL NOT MAKE MONEY ON. HAHA RAYONIER

Thanks for all the information fellow members.

We drew it 3 years ago and went down 4 times to hunt. The permit back then was $25 but I hear it's in the $100 range now; not sure. Awful flat so there aren't a lot of vantage points. Google Earth can help you out quite a bit with gates and whatnot. The north side seemed to have better sign than the south for us but we may have been looking in the wrong spot. We did see 2 cougars so that was kind of neat, although they didn't stick around for a photo op! Never did get a bear but called one in to about 50yds in the reprod and heard him busting some stuff up and found his tracks later.

I drew it last year and hunted quite a few times down there.  never got a bear and only saw one bruiser cross the road in front of me and i was just about to park and walk out to the end of a clearing before dark and just turned the corner and bam in the rd off into the reprod.  If you want some tips I can show you where I saw lots of fresh sign on the maps.  It sure is flat and thick and wet! PM me your email and i will send you I got.

I hunted it two years ago. Spent about ten day out there and saw only one bear. It ran across the road and was gone. They allow deprivation hunts there so as soon as they hear a vehicle they run. I was able to get within 100 yards of some nice bull elk though.

Plenty of fire wood so do not bring any with you.

This is not something new. It might have been a good idea to post questions about the Copalis permit before applying for it. Now you just lost your points for nothing, if you aren't going to use the permit. I agree that it doesn't seem right that they charge for access, when bear hunters are actually doing them a favor. But the access fee sure wasn't a secret. It's been discussed on here many times.

this was the first time i have ever put in for spring bear, so 1 point not saved lol. i was wanting the skagit permit, which i live close to. i thought you had to fill out all four hunt choices, i now know you can put only the area you want.

the only thing that makes me mad about this is they charge people to do them a favor, that to me is not right at all.

I could careless about lost point, and app. fee. was not going to hunt that area anyway.

my house is surronded by the best bear hunting this state has to offer.

two years ago i saw 8 bears in one clear cut on opening morning!
