New guy questions: licenses and limits
« on: October 04, 2008, 05:16:47 PM »
Hi guys  :hello:
great forum, I'm really glad I've found this place- I've already learned a lot and I've only been lurking for a week :)  I did a search but I couldn't find answers to a couple of questions.  Here's the story: I'm a new hunter this year and I'm mostly after blacktail with my bow. The good news is I know more people who are interested in hunting than I thought I did (though I didn't know it until a few weeks ago, before early archery season).  The bad news is, I don't know if I can take up a couple of potential offers that have been presented...

The first question is, if I'm invited onto private property and the owner says "kill 'em all"- how many can I take?  I'm under the assumption it's just the one that I have the tag for, but I don't know if rules are somehow different for private property.  Are there nuisance/depredation tags that property owners can get for deer?

Second, I have an archery tag but my neighbor invited me to go with him and his family to hunt during the first part of the modern firearm season.  Can I hunt with my bow, or am I limited to the archery seasons? My gut reaction is that I have to wait until November  :'(

Thanks in advance
A peculiar virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct. Whatever his acts, they are dictated by his own conscience, rather than that of onlookers. It is difficult to exaggerate the importance of this fact.

One deer a year unless the land owner has damage tags and yes you are stuck with archery season.

This is a classic scenario during the field course portion of Hunters Education.
The answer is no, you can not "kill em all". You can only hunt what is in season in accordance your tags.

Yup, as mentioned...just one deer.

If you wanted to hunt modern firearm season with your bow you would have to buy a modern firearm tag...but since you already have an archery tag, it's a no-go for this year. You can still tag along, though, you just can't be the one hunting.
I left it better than I found it...did you?
I hunt animals because veggies are too easy to stalk.

Thanks for the confirmation guys... a boy can dream, right?  :)  Now I'll go back to hating on the guys on outdoor channel who talk about taking "only" three "this trip"   :tung:

The first thing you should do when you have pest deer on private property is to quit freakin and call me up. I'll come over , inspect the resident population and devise a plan to thin them out. Free of charge with bows or rifles.  :chuckle:

Good luck
