Bears out of dens
« on: March 24, 2013, 07:03:53 PM »
Are the bears out of their dens yet? I got drawn for the huckleberry and will be hunting around 2900-3100 ft. I was planning on going over the 31st and hunting the 1st if there starting to come out?

Both my spring bears have been killed early. One the end of april and one the first week of may. That being said I would wait tell later in the season next time. I think I saw where they extended the season so the later hunting should be great for the spring tags this year. It is turning nice right now so if it warms up a lot hunting could be great early as well. Good luck on your hunt.

Yeah they do come out. A lot of times I think its the bigger boars that come out a little early. There was snow the next day after I shot the bear in april, thought that was a little crazy.

they are out right now, problem is they stay close to their den for a couple weeks and feed very little.  It takes a while for their metobiolism to get going and really start to forage! so if your gonna hunt the first couple weeks of april, south slopes usually with rocks outcroppings and lower elevations! they aren't going to be out moving very much!

Anyone know if the bears are moving yet in the copalis area?  This is my first spring drawing and I'm really excited and ready to get out there.  I'm pretty new to the bear hunting and well, new to the area.  April 15th can't get here soon enough.

:yeah:  plus a lot of bears den up higher and on north faces also.  So it may be greening up where you are hunting, but they still have four feet of snow on them.  Come may the boars start moving a lot more looking for sows too.
