Ocean Shores Jetty
« on: March 25, 2013, 05:14:17 PM »
All, Headed to the beach this weekend and wanted to know if anyone has had any experience fishing the Ocean Shores Jetty? I know the Westport Jetty produces but haven't heard much about Ocean Shores. I'm going to give it a try either way, just curious if anyone has any tips or experience. Ill post up a report on Monday when we're back.

I don't know anyone who does good off the ocean shores jetty. It is to exposed to waves, making it tough for fish to be safe. IMO

But, that being said. I have fished it and caught a ling or two. Along with seeing other people catch a couple. Westport is the obvious better choice. But beggers can't be choosers, with the limited opportunities to catch a ling from the bank. Haha

A few of the Qin members fish there via rod and reel and do just fine!

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to give it a try and see. Looks like the weather is going to be nice and hopefully the seas will cooperate.

surf perch on the beach size rock fish and bottom on the other side. you will lose alot of gear. i would just fish the beach side with clam necks and a 24 to 36 inch leader with a 2/0 hook and and 2 oz weight and cast into surf. they get pretty big in westport. good luck and watch out for the waves that hit thwm rocks.

I fished it last forth of July weekend and fished for hours out there. Ended up hooking what I thought was a ling on the more protected side of the jetty but he took me into the rocks and broke off. Other than that nothing all morning. Also tried the beach for surf perch but didnt have any success on those either. Still learning on the perch though.

Hit it near the opener and you will do much better! By July its fished out.

Well I promised an update on my return and here you go. There seems to be minimal information regarding the Ocean Shores Jetty when it comes to fishing. I want to pre-empt this report with the fact that I have no experience with Jetty fishing.

I got to the Jetty on Friday at 11:30 with the tide still incoming and fished until 1:30. I was using 1 oz. to 2 oz. jug heads with 5"-8" curly tailed grubs of different colors, a 9' heavy action rod and 30lb fireline. The first hour I was having a hard time figuring out technique and was not being aggressive enough with my gear. I remembered some posts saying, "if you're not losing gear your not fishing right." So I started to fish a bit slower and really let my jig bounce around in the rocks. A few casts after I made the adjustment I hooked into the larger fish and was able to land him with relative ease (no net) and not 10 casts later hit the second fish, both were caught on a white 1oz. jug head with a root beer (brown) 6" grub . Just as I got in a groove the wife called and summoned me back to pick her up.

I also did a little bit of surf perch fishing and  landed 10 in less than 2 hours on Saturday. Can't wait to hit the Jetty again now that I have a better idea of how to fish for them. I hear people are slaying them over in Westport, I just didn't want to drive an hour when I was already in Ocean Shores. Here are some pics. Be careful out on the jetty, those rocks are slick and can be a real jerk if you're not careful. I won't attach a pic but took a pretty solid digger on my way out and cut my shin to the bone, gotta love super glue!
