First Time Turkey Hunting

Looking at going to hunt this weekend around Klickitat. Soda Springs game area. Just wanted to see if it is worth the time to go hunt that area. I don't want to know anyone's honey holes.

Chief,
Let me know how you did. I went out there last year, but not sure if I am this year. Myself and my son hunted the Kettle Falls and Colville area.
I work at SWFPAC. Retired from the Navy last year. Let me know like I said and maybe we can hook up and talk and go on out there before the season ends.

Lord , we've been here on days before
and often times you've let me score
Now do you think that on this day
you could send a gobbler down my way?
And , if not , just let me say--
you've given me another day
to hunt the bird I love the best.
I don't mind sharing with the rest

im a 10 year navy veteran. i a few years back i hunted turkeys but i was up above the town of klickitat. im thinking about giving it a try again as still have all my stuff. there are a good number of merriams back then. i would think the population has increased. but it has been a while since ive been there. there a few members that live in goldendale. i would think they would know hopefully they can chime in. maybe on monday or during the week give the region 5 wdfw office in vancouver a call and see what would be the best area to try out there. they would know.

Thank You for everyones replys. Just got back in the door. Cell service is bad up in Soda Springs and G4 wasn't any better. I can say one thing though. Im hooked. Talked with many fellow hunters and they hadnt seen or heard a turkey. I however manage to call in a turkey. He started gobbling at about 150 yards out. This went on for an hour and a half I would call and he would gobble. He held up so as any dumb rookie would do I would close the distance. Needless to say I saw him at 35 yards and he saw me and off to the races he went. It was great being in the woods and learned a lot. Thank you again for the replys.

Chief,
Did you go to the turkey foundation banquet in Goldendale last night? I talked to a guy that was hunting Soda Springs.

Chief ...
Not bad for the first time out ...
Call less and softer as he gets closer ... be really patient ... eventually he will get curious and horny enough to break and come on in.
Good luck ....

WOW! Not bad at all, for the first time out. I agree, be patient, he will come in, he may come in silent, but give it time.
