Cameras in the High Country?
« on: October 05, 2008, 08:26:37 PM »
Hey guys, just curious if anybody has ever posted any trailcams up in a wilderness area?  Seems like all the pics I see are from "localized" areas that aren't too far away.  I've recently gotten the desire to put up a camera or two around a drainage in the high country and GPS them.  Not sure how effective they'd be and you could really only take one or two trips to check photos each year (for me anyways) but whats your .02???

we set my cam up at about 5500' 2.5 miles in this year for a week and got zero pictures....it was set up where 2 or 3 different game trails intersected and where fanatic watched a herd of elk walk by right before  he set the cam out...not sure what happened. it took pic's of us walking up to it, and of fanatic walking away, but nothing else. it was a bit of a let down for sure. this was not in  a wilderness area fwiw. it was a nice hike though and i didn't mind doing it twice.

I hear you guys... I was more thinking about pickin a drainage and posting a camera or two in the bottom, one on a good saddle point, and maybe one near a water source...   :dunno:

Doubt I'll ever get it done but you never know!
