Taking my bro for Lings

Can anyone toss me a couple of good spots to try tomorrow?  My brother is visiting from Texas and I'm going to take him out in my 14' skiff to try to wax some lings.  I've tried around Hat with no success so far (but people around me have also been fishing and I've witnessed nothing caught other than a single rock cod).  Any other places that are common to try without giving away honey holes?  I'd just like to have a few options if we're going to make a day of it.

Would prefer to launch from Everett or Mukilteo, Everett would be the normal launch for me.  Boat has a 30 horse and scoots along pretty good if the wind is relatively flat.

If you don't mind the launch fee or drive I would suggest the Edmonds jetty. You are just a little restriced to going much further than Hat.

If you don't mind getting rocked in a 14footer, you could go to the south end of Whidbey. But I would take Hat over Edmonds jetty It is getting pretty fished out no matter where you go though

Stang....I can also look up the GPS numbers for the rock piles that are on the South/South west corner of hat. Do you have a bottom finder on that thing?

JUST drug mine out of storage (its a brand new portable one) that i'll have to fix to the boat on a maiden voyage.  Other than that I've been using the GPS charts on my iPhone on an app that I bought.

Been rocked on small boats my entire life on the San Juans, it has high sides, no major concerns unless it gets flat out dangerous.  At least my 14' now has a full height transom for long shafts only, the ones cut down for short shafts really get erie.

Assuming you know what you're doing in a 14'er on the sound - I'd say the sunken ferry and the adjacent rockpiles on Possession are pretty good, and then all the structure on the west side of the bar.  There are a few lings left but they are getting picky.  You spend enough time working them, though, and you're bound to get one.  Rockpiles south of Hat just get pounded.  I think there's a few fish left in there, but it is a small area and the number of divers that hunt those rockpiles is pretty high.  I wouldn't even fool around with jigs - whatever's left to catch has seen it all by now.  It's pretty much a live bait game at this point.

Looking a little dicey this weekend for that far of a run. I hear you on the trout fishing....not the same when you grow up in the 'Juans. However....you want to take him fishing.....you want to catch some fish.....maybe you need to consider more options.

A little dicey?  Don't be a puddin'.  5-15 knot is gold standard.  Rain will knock the wind down.  Worst case scenario we get to use to coast guard I've paid so much in taxes for and those freakin lifejackets that I required to carry.  That'll show 'em.

Wed: SW wind 5 to 15 kt. Wind waves 1 or 2 ft. Showers likely.

You make valid points sir. Go get 'em! The ferry is easily marked with some bouys on the south end of Whidbey.....fish all around it for toothy critters.
