New Shooter @ the Farm

Had some extra time after practice today, so I arranged with a fellow forum member, LCPullman, a shooting trip @ the farm.  It was his introduction to shooting a muzzleloader.  I did not have any of the DISC rifles or even the new Ultra-Lite set up for Western shooting but we did not let that slow us down. 

I took the 52 cal. DISC Extreme and my MK-85 and we headed to shoot.  At the farm I asked about shooting a ML and found out this was going to be his first experience with a ML.  He does and has shoot an 06 so the shooting experience was there.

I loaded the MK for him the first couple of time and he shot the rifle using peep sights - to get use a Western type ML.  Then he loaded and capped the gun a few times and shot the rifle.

We then moved to the KDEx.  He decided he wanted to shoot paper first just to see where he might be hitting.  His first 3 shots were taken using a 45-70 rifle bullet from Lehigh.  His group really was not hat bad for the first time handling that rifle and shooting a ML. The next three shots were 300 grain Bloodlines and he really put a decent group together.



I think the target and the dusting of clay pigeons was enough to get the hook set - we might have another ML shooter among us.

It was a good day!

It's always fun getting someone new to blackpowder out shooting for the first time. The last few times we went out shooting the 22s and handguns we have taken the BP rifles & BP revolvers. I just picked up a 45 caliber BP single shot pistol last week to shoot.
