Seemed quiet for bears yesterday in Monroe....
« on: May 04, 2013, 08:01:22 AM »
Headed out yesterday and did my normal loop....I didnt see any fresh peels or scat... :dunno: While I didnt see anything, I was on foot and only covered about 6 miles, so I am sure that you guys with keys, will cover a bit more territory. Stil,l was gorgeous out there and Alpine drive in never disappoints... :chuckle:   Talked to one logger guy, the logging company has a few baits out evidently, to try to feed the bears instead of them eating on the trees....he said he wasnt getting much action on there yet which was surprising to me. I assume these must be sanctioned baits.....

Interesting side note on this...I see their point in baiting, trying to save their product, but I wonder if it doesnt draw more bears in the area,  causing more trouble than it detered... :dunno:

Any rate, dont give up out there guys/gals....it will only get better with all this warm weather!

I saw your pick up at the gate. I was checking out the bait barrel last week, and only one had any scat around it. Not vry much either. The other hadn't even been touched. George (The caretaker) said that last year they didn't really hit them either. I have seen very little sign so far. Your right, pretty slow so far at least in there.  They used to feed them the spawned out salmon from the hatchery awhile back. That did bring in the bears.
