Tiger Mountain Pointing Labs

I will be using it as primarily a family dog, but during the fall I hunt upland game (forest grouse, pheasant, quail, huns) and am looking to get into waterfowl hunting more since I would have a dog. My question is what is your guys' experience as far as the 'flushers' and the 'pointing' dogs that he offers??

I know both dogs are very good, however I am wondering the main experiences these dog owners have had -  hopefully some are on this site. Also, if you could would you choose someone else, or a different dog (if you had a flusher, would you choose a pointer next time & possibly why)?

My buddy and I both bought dogs this past October from Ryan out of Snohomish. 

Both of us are amazed with the progress, the pedigree, and development of the dogs.  Both of us bird hunt both upland and waterfowl, and the dogs are doing great with training.

I have a 7 year old black female pointing lab that I got from Tiger Mountain kennels and she is a fantastic dog.  She is smart, loyal, driven, and absolutely loves to hunt.  I got her as a pointing lab but she has mostly waterfowl hunted.  What little upland hunting she has done, she has been great but I have never seen her go on a complete point(my fault for not working with her more).  She is so driven to hunt that it is unreal.  I honestly think that she would keep retrieving until she collapsed. She has retrieved duck, goose, pheasant, quail, chuckar, hun, grouse, and even dove, all with the same desire and intensity.  If you are mostly going to upland hunt, I would say go with the guaranteed pointing lab.  If you are wanting an all-around dog, I think a Tiger Mountain lab without the pointing guarantee would be great also.  Either way, the dog should be a great hunter and family dog(mine are like my kids and have a great personality around other dogs and people).  I also have a dog from Wind River Labs which is located in Ephrata.  She is a super hunting/family dog also and I would recommend Wind River Kennels also.  Jereme

I have a dog from Tiger Mt and she is great on upland game and waterfowl. She doesn't point. I also have a pointing lab from Oregon who hunts great but doesn't point. My buddy hunts wirehair pointers. They were born pointing. I think you need to spend a lot of time to get a lab to point. If you really want a pointer, you may not want a lab.

I'd say if you want a versatile dog get a wirehair or shorthair that would be my advice as well.

Spuddie - I pretty much have my mind set up on Tiger Mtn., their reputation and (from what I have heard) 100% positive satisfaction is enough alone to make me want a pup from their business. Thank you for offering up some extra information on that other breeder, if I decide to change my mind I'll be sure and shoot ya a PM 

Bigdog - Thanks for that information, it really helped! I will keep Wind River Kennels in mind, but like I told Spuddie, I have my mind pretty much set on Tiger Mtn.-- if I have a change of heart then I'll look into Wind River.

Cougar Gold - Another positive experience with a dog from Tiger Mountain! It's not that I want a dog that strictly points (such as a German Shorthair), but I feel that would be a nice skill (or bonus) to have as well. Thank you for your information!

RC3 - Thank you, but I really am set on having a lab. My last (which was also my first) was a black lab so I'm gonna stay within the breed but give yellow a go!

If you want a upland pointer, get  pointer or setter if you want a flusher get a spaniel. All these dogs make great pets plus there just better. If your a weekend warrior then a lab should suite you just fine. Now for the Kennel and there dogs I have heard nothing but good things...
