Roads explained
« on: May 26, 2013, 01:39:54 PM »
Hi, my first post here. I moved to WA 6 months ago from TX. Very different experience after living for 20 years in TX.  :) I am trying to prepare for the upcoming hunting season and I am looking over the maps and browsing the forum, but I need some help.

Can some one explain the road system on public lands to me? I see references to A-lines, C-lines, D-lines, V-lines, etc ... What do they all mean?  :)

Thanks a lot!

The drainage that the road runs through.  Unless were thinking of different things.  Ex:  Q-line, Q-#### would be Quinault and then the roads switch to C-line 'Clearwater'.

A lot of the timber companies just use those for designation instead of calling them by a name. Capitol State Forest has an A,B,C, and D line. On national forest lands you'll see a FS2270 or something like it. The FS stands for forest service road. Some companies just use numbers for their roads. Check out google earth as it can do a lot of your scouting for you and save you a lot of walking. You can also buy a Public Lands Quadrangle map that has most of the lands labeled so you know the different ownerships.
