Gun Safe???

I'm in the process of buying my first home rt now and am looking into buying a gun safe but don't want to break the bank cause the wife has plans of other things for the house that obviously will take priority  :chuckle: I don't want to spend over 800 on it I've been looking at the liberty safes at cabelas but theres only one review on the site about it I'd appreciate any suggestion thanks.

Liberty makes a quality safe, you should also check out NWSafe in Enumclaw, they are wonderful to deal with.

There is a good you tube video about how to shop for a gun safe. Then it's just a matter of cost.

Liberty does make quality safes but they also make a cheap version to compete with that market as well, I agree with huntnphool you should go see Dave at NW Safe in Enumclaw

what are folks' thoughts on location?  My wife wants me to put it in the garage. I suppose I could do that, drill bolts into the concrete floor, etc.  My preference is in a closet in the house, but that takes up closet space and she does not like that.

  Garage Is Not A Bad Option.  If Your In A Neighborhood With Snoopy Neighbors SomeOne Would See If It Is Being Stolen.  Bolt It To The Floor On An Exterior Wall. :tup:

My wife said the same thing when we bought our house 8 years ago
"we need to put your safe in the garage"

I just smiled and made no comment, then on moving day, I deposited the safe upstairs in the corner of our master bedroom.
It still sits there today.

Some things are not negotiable, LOL

I did let her decorate the top of it though  :rolleyes:

I buy guns without discussion, so I have to give her decisions over some things.  :)

There is one closet I might be able to fit it into. I like your idea though: maybe I'll just clean out that closet and put the safe in there one day when she's out and about. Then it's just done.  :chuckle:

before i would ever put a gun safe in the garage i would monitor the moisture level,bad for guns and ammo. :twocents: as for the wall exterior would be worse.

I just got a Tracker Safe the other week from the guys down in Vancouver, WA. Best bang for my buck that I could find out on the market right now. The Tracker Safe guys are really easy to work with also. I debated getting a Liberty or a Winchester for a while but I couldn't justify Liberty's prices and the Tracker T24 that I got was better quality and a little bigger than the Winchester. It is a tough decision but it is nice getting a deal on Tracker Safe and saving a few $$

I have a Bighorn 24 gun from costco, they had them on sale for pretty cheap (<$600). Very happy with it.  It was delivered to my door! I was going to get a Tracker, but by the time it was shipped it was way more than costco's.

Gun safes in garages are ripe for the thief to put a cable/chain around and pull out with a truck while you're gone. Garage concrete is only 3-4" thick so anchors won't hold. Put it in the house, pour a slab of concrete in the crawl space and then anchor it to that through the floor.
 
Liberty safes are usually a good buy.  Don't pay sales tax on a gun safe.
