Finally going to fish Alaska
« on: May 31, 2013, 03:08:10 PM »
I have a cousin that lived in Valdez, AK for over 20 years and did nothing but fish.  Now he lives in Anchorage, AK but still knows a lot of people in Valdez.  We hadn't talked in years because of me being in the Army and him just avoiding the family...lol.  But we were really close growing up.  But anyway, we started talking again last year and he hit me up a the end of last year about coming up to fish Alaska.  He knows that has been a dream of mine and my dad for ever.  So we will fly into Anchorage, drive to Valdez and he as a friend with a 42' boat we are taking way out in Prince William Sound around Hinchinbrook Is and Montague Is.  He says way out there it is like fishing no where else.  Tons of big lings, halibut, yellow eye and a lot of other bottom fish and he said when we are there in August tons of silvers.  Oh yeah big prawns too.  We are going to stay out on the boat for 4 days then since its so far out.  Then when we get back to Valdez just fish closer to shore for a few more days for just day trips.  Then head back up to Anchorage area to hit a couple rivers for salmon.  One river his good friend owns a lodge we are going to and another river his girlfriends family has a cabin right on the river. At first my son didn't want to go, he didn't want to go that far out in the ocean.  But I showed him the map where is it somewhat protected behind those two islands and then showed him a fishing show about Alaska and he said "I'm in!!!"  So this is going to be a great trip to a place I always wanted to fish and to be going with my dad and son.

I can't remember for sure, but I think it was early August.  Bottom fishing was awesome.  Had a fish on almost every time I dropped it down.  The best part was not knowing what was on.  Darn near different species everytime!  You guys are going to have an awesome time.  By sure to take a lot of pictures.
