Fluting was primarily designed as a raceway for dirt and debris, especially snow and ice, to have a raceway to run into without seizing the bolt. Side benefits are lighter weight (not much) and the cool aesthetics of it.

Numbers shown around different areas of the interwebs all come back to around 1/2 ounce in weight.  Some a little more and others a little less.  flute barrel has more gains.

Thanks, though it won't be slinging 300 grainers anywhere like yours. Starting off with 180s (factory loads) and eventually go 200-230gr when I get into handloading.

I really like the deeper fluting as compared to some of the shallower  fluting options out there.

This is a spiral fluted Pacific Tool & Guage bolt I put in a super clean older. 6 digit Rem700 long action, it's chambered in 7mm WSM match with a 30" heavy Palma Shilen 9 twist. Shoots the Matrix 190's wicked accurate.

I'll take Kampfeld's flutes over this type any day.

Not the best pic but here's some Stiller flutting.

Thinking about sending my .300 win mag Encore barrel to Kampfeld to be fluted. I talked to him and he said he could do it. Sadly, it doesn't have a bolt I could also get fluted.
