Kapowsin bear down
« on: June 09, 2013, 06:52:31 PM »
After a couple of weeks of being away from Kapowsin, Taylorb and I finally found time to head down. Hit the gate at 6:45am or so and headed to a place where we had spotted at least one bear on our previous outing. We parked the truck at 7:30 or so and started walking the roads and on into the trees.  After doing some pushing through the trees, we met back up on one of the side roads to then walk up to a spur. Not even really being quiet as we walk up a side game trail to the spur we were going to hit, a young one comes out sees us and hits the first tree. We stand there only about 20-25yrs away caught by surprise but also asking each other if we should shoot it.  Well, we are there for a purpose so I choose to take the shot.  Nailed it and it falls from the tree. We watched it for a few min waiting for it to pass - steam coming from its breath and a massive hole in its back (this is when I wish I didn't bring my 338).  The next thing we know, it stands up, walks across the road and falls into the ditch. We're standing there asking ourselves how can this thing still be moving with the damage I just caused.  I dispatch another round to take it down for good.

While its not a big one, I can say that I got my bear and I have some good tender meat for the freezer.

That's the purpose of the spring tag, to take bears. We can trophy hunt in the fall. Nice job.

Welcome to the site!
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.
