New Eberlestock Tailhook pack
« on: June 11, 2013, 12:30:33 AM »
Made a rare trip.to town and visited the local Sportsmans and came across said pack. Ten minutes later I was out the door with it. It was the only one there and the price was ninety nine bucks. So far I've done some hiking with it and love it. All except the funky tether outfit. It kinda reminds me of an old school NVA pack.   Wasn't shopping for a new pack, but I really wanted to switch to a suspender style pack. Further research revealed that it normally runs for 230-260.  Awesome!! Can't tell you if it's worth that much but it's sure worth a hundred  bucks.  At any price it's a handy comfy low profile pack that won't snag everything you have to duck  under

I have the original (don't remember the name) and my buddy owns the tailhook.  We both love them.  They last forever and are extremely comfortable to wear.  You did well at 100 bucks.

I'm considering a new tail hook.  Ducking under stuff with my pack is a pain.  I'm wondering if there is a place on the belt for a pistol?  I like to carry a .357 on my belt and wonder if the tail hook will work for that?

Thanks

The newer version has two zipper pockets that fit will fit a full size 1911.  It is not a holster, but it is still pretty easy to get to and it keeps your pistol out of the elements.  You can also put a holster on the waist belt but it rides to fare forward for my liking.

The original is awesome for a holster.  It also has webbing on the waist belt that accommodates MOLLE gear / holsters.  I wish they would have never discontinued the original pack.... :bash:

I saw the side pocket and wondered if it would fit my pistol.  I don't think my 4" S&W .357 is larger than a 1911.  It would be nice to have it in a holster for fast access, but it's also a benefit to have it out of sight, out of the elements, and it's less likely to get lost if you get stuck in the thick stuff.  It would be sweet to have the other side pocket for my rangefinder and Garmin.  I think I'm going to get one.

There is a used one for sale on the sight.  It is looks to be in great shape and the guy is selling it for a really good price.  Also Eberlestock has a lifetime warranty on all their packs...so if you have a problem with it they will fix it.

Good Luck.
