Idaho mulies
« on: July 01, 2013, 02:14:19 PM »
Any one know anything about Northern Idaho Mulies. I talked to a guy last year at the gas station when i was filling up he was checking out my whitetail and i saw he had a muley. He said he had taken it by bonners. I know i can archery hunt them august 31st but i just dont know where to start scouting. Anyone know any areas? No honey holes Id just like to know where the mules start and whities end.

I hunted Unit 1 several years for mule deer.  Mostly on the MT border.  Unit 6 also has some good mule deer country.   There is plenty of high country to chase them around in those 2 units.

I had the early unit 1 rifle tag in 2005 and saw some very good muley bucks.   One in particular was a boxy 30" 4-point that was up in the 180's.

I'd scout in August and hunt them above the tree line before they shed their velvet.  By Nov 1st, those big muleys can be inaccessible due to snow.

I have been wondering the same things. I went up and looked around a bit the other weekend...( not on purpose... just hiking.) If you are looking for a partner shoot me a pm I'd like to look around a bit also.

If you guys want some specific spots, send me a pm.  I don't have time to hunt that country anymore

I am looking to hopefully get into that country this year for some mulies (unit 1).   Went once last year but it was late in the year and a lot of snow and could not get up high.

Don't overlook unit 6.   I believe that it opens up on the 10th of October now, making those high country bucks accessible.  When I used to hunt it, you couldn't hunt mule deer until the 1st of November.  I saw some very nice bucks while hunting elk in October in unit 6.
