Fireworks?

With the brightness of the fireworks, you need to think in terms of daylight shooting. Tripod and remote are a must, I manual focused on Space Needle, manual priority f/8 or f/11 set to bulb, ISO 100 to ISO 400, push remote when firework starts to explode and release when it is finishing. I shot these with my 24-105 L at 28mm, ISO 400, f/11.

As Arrow Head said, you need to behave like you're shooting in almost bright daylight conditions, as far as Aperture and ISO goes.  Shutter must be opened and closed by remote, via Bulb setting.  I open and close slightly different than Arrow Head though.  I open the shutter as I watch the mortar rise into the sky...then I close the shutter, well, whenever I want.  I'll actually leave the shutter open through 3 or 4 mortars sometimes, so they all show up in the same photo.  Any more than 3 or 4 and the photo tends to become too cluttered.  If you're getting too much light into the camera, by keeping the shutter open so long, you can use a black piece of cardboard to "cover" the lens, between each mortar explosion.  Just don't bump the lens with the cardboard.

Very nice arrow head. That's how I ended up taking my shots. I needed a better view. I didn't have too many other option though.

Yeah, view point and back drop make a big difference. Here are a couple I took last year with a better back drop, but had a soft kit lens 17-55mm.
