My Past Bear From The Monroe Area
« on: July 15, 2013, 11:59:03 AM »
I haven't been on in a while but wanted to post my last bear I shot. I got it in the Monroe area in late August. I saw him on the edge of a clear cut at 85 yards away and tried a call to see what happened. He ignored it at first and walk just inside the timber and out of view :bash:. I continued to call for 20 minutes or so to see if I could get him to pop out again. I was sitting on top of a log pile so I could have a good areal view. The whole time my eyes were fixating on the last spot I saw the bear instead of looking over my shoulders like I usally do when I use a distress call. This bruin could hear the dinner bell because he circled back almost undetected, and was heading my way from my back right side. Before I knew it,  I ended up calling this bruin in with a distress call to about 12 yards of me. A little too close to comfort  :yike:. I was using a custom call from "bearmanric". If you get one of his calls, you will not be disappointed. They sound incredible. Anyways just wanted to post a picture of him!

bugger killed that bear the day after I left to go guide fishing trips for the fall. I had hunted the cut with him 3 times before that. Its an awesome bear!

As he snuck up behind/right of you, what were the wind conditions while you were calling?  I bet he circled down wind trying to sniff out what was making all the noise.

Thanks everyone! Just  2short weeks  :IBCOOL:!

H20hunter- definitely, I won't turn down a beer , and some bear stories.

JackOfAllTrades- You make a valid point. Never thought about that possibility. If there was a breeze, it was sudtle. I do remember a good fog in the clear cut that started clearing out closet to me by the time I pulled the trigger. Which would mean if there was a breeze, it was coming from my back side. That's a great  :twocents:, and something to think about on my next hunt.
