Propane Tent Heater
« on: October 20, 2008, 01:10:10 PM »
Anyone ever use a small tent heater to keep warm during wilderness camping while Elk hunting? Some have O2 sensors that shut the thing down when the O2 gets too low or when the C02 gets too high. I'd like not to freeze or suffocate when camping in the cold.

I use the big buddy version and it seams to shut off way too often (after 3-5min in a wall tent). I think it has a faulty sensor though.

I've had the same problem with mine. Then I tried the filter, no luck, then I tried the low pressure regulator, no luck. Then I called the company and the only thing they could tell me was to clean the pilot with rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. He said stick it way down in there. After cleaning It ran for about 30 min and shut off. I immediately re lit it and it ran for the next 4 hours until I shut it off. I them packed it away for elk hunting and will try it out in 3 days. :IBCOOL:

Great information. Thanks. Joe's has the Mr. Buddy junior, 9,000 BTU with O2 sensor shutoff for $69.00 bucks. Great deal. That's what I'm getting.

I did the same thing: turn on appx 15 min before bed and again in the morning to take the chill off.  My tent would get warm.  I recommend them.  I have the smaller "Mr Heater".

I have one of those small heaters that connects to a small propane bottle, I use it but keep some of the windows open a crack just to keep some fresh air flowing.  It keeps the temp up a bit more than it would if I did not use it and I can keep warmth on my upper body.  I am going to get a Mr Heater dual tank when I can afford it (maybe santa will be good to me ;)  )
