Thought I had him figured out
« on: July 19, 2013, 05:24:17 PM »
A close family friend has 160 acres and has been seeing a big bear throughout the summer. He has seen the bear twice and his sons (9 and 11) saw it as well. The bear actually walked in front of the boys at about 20 yards and scared them pretty good.  He asked me if I wanted to try and hunt it and I jumped at the opportunity. Anyways, I set up cameras near three areas I thought might be a good place to catch the bear cruising. I was able to get him on camera but I have no idea what happened to the sd card. If I find it I will post the pictures. He used the same trail 3 days in a row in the area I thought he would be. There is a creek bed not 25 yards from the trail that I know he must be using in order to stay cool in the heat. I thought I had him figured out and all of a sudden he hasnt been back for a week. The only thing I can think of is that the land owner did hay his field about 150 yards away and i am wondering if that drove the bear out? Will he be back? I already have a ground blind set up on the trail and I will sit in it whether I get pictures again or not, but Im curious if you guys think he will be back? I was getting excited and now I am a little discouraged

From my understanding bears will travel an area and make a big loop coming back to the area every few days or so.

Sounds like my buddies property. He has a creek on the backside and I have been seeing 2-3 different bear on my game cam every day. I didn't think about them cooling off in the creek, that makes sense.

As the food sources change as do the bears habits, they move with the new available feed, usually following it up in elevation threw summer. Human presence/scent will push them out of an area unless they are accustom to relating people with food (garbage bears or whatever) of course there are exceptions to every rule......good luck in killing him

Yeah there is good sign, but nothing within the last week or so and no pictures for a while. I still set up the blind in a good area and am going to sit in it after work and on weekends. Ive always wanted to get one with the bow and my set up is perfect as long as he shows up!
