Gotcha.  Thanks guys.

Nisqually is a bit far I think.  Maybe going to try Case Inlet
Cool man goodluck, post pictures. That same setup should get u fish just about anywhere. Small pieces of cooked/uncooked shrimp work also if bait fish is hard to come by.

Depth?  do you recommend anchoring the boat or drifting?

I like to drift if it is a nice slow breeze or tide. I fish anywhere from 15 down....

Left eye dominant = left eye centered in the head, right eye dominant = right eye cenetered in the head when looking from the angle you described. I would bring a variety of weights up to 3oz. In a boat you may be drifting with the tide fairly fast. A heavier weight may be needed to keep your bait down. Don't overlook nightcrawlers as well, they are cheap and stay on the hook well versus herring.
Good point, I always forget about the good ol nightcrawlers, They never fail to put something in the boat, even if its sculpin :chuckle:

Sinker weight?  We have 6'6" medium action (6-12lb line) ugly sticks with spinning reels
I use 12lb also, I use a 1oz pyramid, sometimes it moves though.
If you can find any weights like these ones, they really work awesome and sometimes u can get away with less weight.

I have a really hard time finding them though myself.

why not make your own? I do and they work great.

I really appreciate this thread.

This will be year 3 of not being successful.  Took my older 2 (6 1/2 and 8) out yesterday.  7 hours, 1 keeper.  It was a flounder and we ate it... THE KIDS LOVED IT.   So now we are trying to target Flounder as our primary fish.   I really REALLY hope we can break this dry spell.  I'm really tired of my kids saying, "Well... at least we tried Daddy..."

Thanks for the info y'all.

I used squid strips this weekend and it worked great.  Stayed on the hook better than herring.  Good luck.

Heres a cool little setup to.

It sits on the bottom, but floats your boat just a bit.

Does it pull out of the wood easy though? and where do you find raw lead blocks? Being as I go through crap crap loads of lead during salmon season on cannonballs, Doesn't sound like a bad idea.

I like to drift in 30-80 feet of water. I use a 3 oz weight, 2-3 foot leader a pink mini squid and #1 hook. I like squid because it stays on the hook a long time. Me and a buddy of mine drifted for about 1 1/2 hours during shrimp season and must have caught 50 of the things. We kept the biggest 12 and released the rest.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!
