I see no point in throwing back a fish when Its on its last stretch of life.

How about so it can spawn?

Dont think my few fish are going to hurt the millions that come in, being how one fish gives birth to 1000-2000 eggs. Guess we should  stop killing deer, bear, and elk so they can reproduce now to eh?
Wow there...not even close to what CP was getting at. Saying "I see no point in throwing back a fish when Its on its last stretch of life," is not the wisest thing to say. If you catch a king in a river that has few, should you keep it since, "Its on its last stretch of life?"  :dunno:
Now talking about humpies, it would be better to release it then let it get freezer burnt because you have waaaaaay to many in your fridge (not saying you did this, but with all of the possible humpies that one could catch, it could easily happen).
If I catch a fish, Its getting ate. Doesn't matter if its two, or two hundred. If I know I'm not hurting anything, Its dinner fair. Again, If its banked, Its getting ate. Only a few times have I let some salmon go, usually kings. That I feel are too small.

That's fine and all, and I am glad that it doesn't go to waste (I will admit for me, one year I had about 4 humpise left in the freezer that had to be turned into bait, and will never do that again), BUT there is definitely a point in letting them go for many people.

To each they're own morals. I'm a big believer in not killing ANYTHING that is not going to get ate. I live my life by Karma, and killing for fun is very bad juju.

Yes, totally agreed by me and almost everyone else, but that is still not my point :chuckle:

^ We've never had enough to freeze, it's all immediately eaten or started in the smoker. I think everyone is just on edge lately  :chuckle: too many mis-communications on the site.

We don't get out to the rivers every day and have 30 fish in a span of a few days, nothing like that ever. Maybe across the whole season we'll get up to there. So when he says he keeps all that are eatable (not zombified) and including keeping ones that are almost dead, wouldn't that actually UP the chances of survival for the healthy ones if he fills his limit for the day on tired half dying fish?  :dunno: and also, we ARE talking pinks, not kings, so the comparison isn't really valid. We fish to eat, not sport, if we're going to fish for kings then we're going to go somewhere that has a healthier population than only one or two in a river.  Lighten up guys.

Ok....let's get this straight here then...I am NOT making my main point about someone wasting fish. I just said some of us may if we get to much.

My main point is that there is a point in letting them go sometimes. I am not telling you to let what you catch go, I am just saying for many of us it is a good idea.

I just mentioned kings due to the "I see no point in throwing back a fish when Its on its last stretch of life." That is all.

Oh my...that explained so much! I never said YOU were wasting fish anywhere in my posts, but it would be easily doable if you were to fish 4 or more times a week. Just forget about the numbers thing then! Many of us see a point and love to CnR dude. That is all I am trying to say.

Now I will say it one more time then I am done. Me, and many others could get plenty of bright pinks that we caught in the salt. Our freezer is full, and smoker is stacked. We head to the river to have fun, and end up catching a few dark pinks. We don't see much value in the meat, and we let it go to spawn. Done. Not thrashing on you for keeping it either, doesn't really matter to me.

Logging out for tonight. No harsh feelings from me...

lol I gotcha, Not hating on anyone that does catch and release, I've done it also. Just hard to really have fun with all the grumpy old whiners out there complaining about crossed lines and braid and blah blah blah. Just like to get my fish and go.
