Cannot access the forum with my phone...
« on: July 29, 2013, 08:19:23 AM »
I've recently joined the forum and am having issues accessing it from my phone.  When I put my username and password in, it says my username doesn't exist.  So, I clicked "Forgot Password" hoping to access it that way.  I put in my email address and get a message that my email address isn't associated with the forum.

On my phone, I can navigate to the forum, read topics and such, just cannot log in.

I don't know if this is related, or not, but I'm also not getting email notifications of responses to threads I'm subscribed to.  I've checked my settings and they are set to receive instant email notification.  I DO get email notifications when I receive a Private Message.

Try deleting your cache or your cookies on your phone. I will 99.9% guarantee you that it is not a forum problem.

As far as notifications, they just started working around yesterday after our tech guy made a repair.

HAHA that explains why I just received an email notification of your response!  I'll fiddle with my phone and see if I can't get it figured out...

Usually, a cookie or cache issue would be having a corrupt or invalid cookie stored, for that particular site.  That shouldn't be the case since I've NEVER been able to access the site, on my phone, so shouldn't have any corrupt or invalid cookies stored.   But I'll clear everything out and see if that fixes the issue.

I changed my password using my computer a couple days ago so I just tried getting on the forum with my phone, I had no problem logging in using my new password.

Hmmm, I cleared cache, cookies and temp files, on my phone.  When I attempt to log in, it still says my username does not exist...

If I click on Forgot Password, it gives me options to either enter my username OR my email address...

Either way, I'm told my username and email are not associated with the forum...

So, I attempted to Register, using my phone.  I got all the forms filled out and get the error message that the username and email addresses are already in use by a registered member...lol

sounds like you are forgetting something in your username, make sure there are no caps or spaces just like it shows on the forum

I thought that at first too, so I very careful reviewed everything, making sure everything was in lower case letters, as it should be...still no go.  It's the same username and password I use on many other forums...all lower case, except for the forums that require an upper case letter and/or a number...not the case here.

The thing is, it's not that I'm entering the password wrong...it's not even recognizing my user name or email address, spelled correctly each time.

I wonder if it could be a browser issue.  I'm using a Samsung GalaxyS3 with the native Android Browser.  I don't use Tapatalk.

If you use the register link it should say that someone has already has the username because you would be trying to register again.

You must use the login link. Has your phone ever let you login before?

So that you know, I am not using tapatalk either, just logging in directly with the phone browser to the forum, I just logged out and logged in again with my phone. Both times I had to try logging in twice because I apparently got something wrong the first time, but both times I logged in carefully with the second try and I was able to get on the forum.

Once again, Yes, I've attempted to use the Login link, several times.

No, it's never allowed me to log in, on my phone.  I just tried it on a second phone, another that's never even attempted to log in to this forum, with the same negative results...

I've tried, at least a dozen times, carefully entering the username and password, making sure it's correct.  Even when trying to retrieve my password, when all I'm asked is for either my username or email (less likely to enter incorrectly than a password) I'm still told that neither are associated with this forum...

I am verifying that everything is entered correctly...

Just for the sake of saying it works for me and because curiosity killed the cat, I logged off on my phone and back on with no issue. Safari(iPhone) and Tapatalk both work as designed.
Dunno.

I would stop by your phone store and ask them to look at your phone and try to login. You must be missing something.  :dunno:

AHA!!!  I figured it out!!  It wasn't my phone OR the forum...

I went to Profile>Account Settings where it gave me an option to Choose a Password, even though I already have a log in password.  So, I chose a password...lol.  I completed that form page, clicked on "Change Profile" (even though I hadn't made any changes...I chose the same password that IS my login password).  It worked!  I can now login on my phone...

HAHA I was missing something.  An extra step in my Profile settings that I've not seen on any other forum.  I moderate several forums and am even Admin on two and I've never seen that extra security step.  Those other forums are all VB based though.  Glad I got it figured out though!  Now I can enjoy on the GO!!
