Albino Deer?
« on: July 31, 2013, 02:42:46 AM »
My wife was driving in Oak Harbor yesterday and snapped this pic of an albino deer.  It is the first i have ever seen... it is small at the time... but when and if it makes it and gets bigger would it be ok to kill and eat? i have never had to deal with this.

It used to be illegal to take an albino in this state....not anymore.

Legal now to harvest.

Spirit Deer. Natives have some weird beliefs about them, don't really know what exactly.
I would never kill one personally.

The white colour deer or stag has long been associated with purity; and in Celtic culture, the colour also represented the otherworld.[2] In modern society, people have acted to protect the white stag as a vestige of beauty, and the hunting of the white stag has often met with anger, because of its rare and elusive nature.[6]

Guess that don't really mean much to some people. I just believe in Karma and other unworldly natures that us as humans still don't understand. Id let him walk for sure
To each they're own though.
One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.

Good points.....

I look at it like a color phase bear or irregular antler or similar....just a variation from the norm.....

I would take it if legal. Would love that hide or mount if buck.  Pretty awesome.  Just a genetic anomaly...

They are bad genes that none of us want to be passed on, Including WDFW. I wouldn't have a problem culling it out of the herd.

It is from defective genes, this is a pretty good article about it and includes some cool pictures:

I lived on whidbey island (south end) until 2004. For a while there was an albino buck roaming around! Pretty cool to watch!
For Pete's sake...pick up your feet, man!
