14 Foot Sea Nymph For Crabbing in Puget Sound/ Hood Canal?
« on: August 02, 2013, 05:08:59 PM »
Fellas! I need some advise on a crabbing boat for me and my 7 year old son. We have been crabbing from docs with minimal success so we were thinking about buying a small aluminum boat that will not break the bank. I was thinking about getting a 14 Foot Sea Nymph. My budget is 1000 dollars for boat, trailer and 25 hp motor? any suggestions if this will be suitable for nice calm summer crabbing in the Northwest. Thanks and have a great day.
Happy Hunting and Fishing

Thats a pretty good deal if the motor is in good running condition.  Fourteen feet would be fine for places like hood canal,  I would just do my homework on the weather before I got myself into much big water.  Oh yeah, don't forget you will need a boating license.

I've fished the sound a lot from a 14' Northwood (Smokercraft Alaskan), rough days suck. Keep an eye on the wave reports from NOAA and don't go out if it's over 2 ft wind waves unless you want a beating from them. You will be plenty safe in a boat that size but just trolling in 2-3 ft waves will make a small aluminum boat pound unless you are trolling with the wind.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.
