SW WA access for coyotes for a beginning hunter?
« on: August 25, 2013, 09:30:09 PM »
So my stepson just finished hunters ed and is going with me for the first time this fall. I want to introduce him to coyote hunting the way I got my first start into hunting. The issue I always had was finding decent, halfway open areas around the area to hunt. It seems like if you dont know anyone with property then your stuck on the timber land and even in clearcuts its not the easiest to find a decent setup. Does anyone know somewhere within an hour or so drive of Vancouver? I hope to find somewhere that we can make a day out of it and do several set ups. I am a responsible hunter and have no issues with being safe around private property and farms. Thats how I got my start on my family 40 acres. But 40 acres isnt quite enough to reliably call. They have got pretty smart to my tactics and I tend to only get one or two to come in each year now compared to seeing one at least every other time I called before. Outside of battleground unit would be ideal. But we do have shotguns so I will take what I can get. Anyone have coyote issues thats not taking care of them themselves? haha. Feel free to PM

Check into hunting coyotes on state wildlife areas. Specially waterfowl ones.
They get over looked and are crawling with Yotes. You still have to obey the rules, shotguns, non toxic shot, etc.

I checked into the Samish unt  A while back and was told no problem by unit manager and local agents. No night hunting though.

Try calling in the thick stuff.  Close quarter combat.  :chuckle:

Seriously this area is loaded with coyotes but as I am sure you know they do not like to break cover.  With the right set up you can get them in very close.

Coyote down Jan 22nd Sorry no kill shot.

Coyote Missed Dec 26th

Works for the kitties also.
