GMU 388 Grayback
« on: August 08, 2013, 04:38:13 PM »
So 2 buddies and I will be hunting private land this yr for mulies during rifle season, kinda curious as to how people have done in the past here? It'll be my first time in the area gonna try to get over and scout it end of aug beginning of sept depending on schedule. Its 45acres backed to state land, the owner used to let some local friends hunt it and apparently took some nice deer in the past. Hasn't been hunted in probably 5-6 yrs so hopefully numbers are decent for the area. Getting excited for this hunt it'll be the first time we've hunted all together and should be a blast!!

I believe nw'ish..we will be staying at his place in goldendale and I believe its about 20-30 min drive give or take to the prop..I only briefly saw his property on a map hence why we wanna get out well before hand and get our bearings narrowed down!

iv seen and shot some nice bucks up Garrison road, FYI though if you dont get more then 3 miles past the gate you wont see many deer, but if you go to far your in tribal land!

Private or not its been hunted. And the deer down there although you might get lucky and find a good deer are a far cry from text book muleys. a cross between mule deer and blacktail. too small to score muley and too large to score blacktail. 20 inch wide is a good deer. IMO!

Lots of deer though. and If your lucky the property is between Goldendale and the reservation. this year anyways. the fire down there has deer and turkeys all across the line right now.

As of now, all that land between Goldendale and the reservation is closed due to fire danger.

Not so worried about growth really. Just want to have a fun hunt and fill my tag. I am not sure exactly yet of the coordinates on where the property lies. Just hoping its still good come oct from the fires down that way. Gonna try to spend a wknd there sept and do some scouting and glassing of the area so we know it real well beforehand!

Good luck on your hunt. There is still some dandy deer around. If you just want a fun hunt and are willing to take a legal buck you should have a good hunt. 45 acres is pretty small so hope they open up the state land so you can cover some more ground.

Thanks Carp! It will be a buddies first real hunt so it'll be a good time for him, my other buddy has been wanting to hit the mule deer hard and I'm in it to take a decent legal buck like you said. Should be a great time with good buddies!
