someone has found my trail cam

So checked my cam and put out more stuff for my buck only to have no pics and to find a tree stand up less then 45 yards away which tthe guy tried to hide so I couldnt see it.  I think this is why my pics went from 300-400 in a week to 60 in two weeks.   im going to take my drill up and take down my cam tomorrow I throw a lock on it but dont think that will stop him from breaking it.

Well he put stuff up so you couldnt see it or the ladder for it. It was up over winter about 450-500 yrds or more away from where I walked in to my cam.

Some people just don't care. They stumble on to an area and take it over.  I had a camera up since March and this one time in early July I went to check it and someone had taken a weed eater and cleared out about a 300 square foot area of vegetation, put up their own camera only 30' away from mine, and actually pruned out the tree I was going to use.  I know they had to see my camera since they weed wacked clear up to it. I just decided to take mine down. Maybe next time I'm in the area I'll star in the movie "shoot the moon".

Out of respect for a fellow hunter if I see sign someone else is set up or looking to set up in an area I will go find another spot. However it is public land and just cause your there first doesnt give you sole rights to that area.

He could have possibly not even noticed your camera and wasn't trying to hide his stand from you specifically.  Guys I know (me included) camo up our ladder stands with local foliage.  At a minimum it breaks up their outline.  It also makes them not quite as easy to see for would-be thieves.

A fellow member on this site found one of my cams, and left me a note. It was cool,  now we are both using the same area and sharing info and pics from our cams. We don't hunt the same deer seasons so its no big deal on crowding. And its public land.

I do agree that hunting on public land you do have to roll with the punches; however, if you know someone is scouting an area to hunt I believe you should give them the same courtesy and respect you would hope they would provide you. Personally, I would make contact with the individual who put up the stand and try to make a hunting connection; for example, maybe you guys could share notes or resources. Just and idea. Personally, when I put up blinds or stands on public land I don't mind if a fellow hunter uses it, I just don't like it when they leave trash or steal.

Well when I go check and only have pics of coyotes and it pretty obvise that deer and elk have been in without a single pic of one. My bolts for my cam where kind of stripped like someone used the wrong size wrench too. He set up his stand where he can look and and see my cam and mineral block. Ive hunted this area for the last 5 years straight with out seeing a single person so it kind of sucks

This guy does not sound like a very ethical hunter. It probably would be a good idea to move on to a different area and try to keep an eye on this guy; if possible. It is one thing to share an area with a fellow hunter but another to interfere with other hunters. Kind of like when you park at the beginning of and start hunting down an old abandoned skid or logging road that goes nowhere and a road hunt drives past you.

There's probably already a lot of human scent in there.  That's why the picture count went from 3-400 to 60.  He has been there so much the place REEKS of human scent.  It's public land--find a less contaminated spot!

I have issues with people declaring some piece of public land to be their place.  Many people can be using the woods that you never know about, at least until you start putting up cameras.  How many years have you been running a camera at that spot?

I usually still hunt, moving through my favorite areas leaving minimal traces.  If you set up a camera on a spot that I have still hunted for years, who is encroaching on who's spot?

If I have been still hunting a spot for years and decide to set up a stand this year, am I a new interloper into someone's area because they now see my stand?

If I have been using a temporary blind in a spot for years and someone sets up a camera there does that mean the spot is theirs and that I have to move on?  Can I set up a tree stand on a spot I have been hunting for years?

In the end, I try to avoid other people.  When someone sets up in a spot I have been hunting, no matter how long, I tend to adjust how I hunt to avoid them.  I'm sure that those people are thinking that the spot is theirs because they dumped a salt block and set up a camera this year.

Everybody owns the public land equally.  Some of us just do it without leaving our stuff in the woods.

  If I took the time to pack in a block and camera and someone hangs a stand over it.... I would not be very happy at all either. No one can be that oblivious to their surroundings if they call themselves a "hunter". And I'm assuming this is an archery "hunter"....?

Im going to pull my stuff. Ive hunted this spot a long long time had a cam up for a little bit last year during season and I have never seen anyone in the area. The stand like I said was a good distance away. Ill move on to some where else and be who I am and not wreck someone hard work

Kinda the same thing happend to me. Put camara up in july, Put treestand up two weeks ago Went back in last week, saw another hunter had put a camara up 200 yds from me  Iam down the ridge I dont think he Knows Iam there. Hope it works out for both of us. Going in tomorow to check camara . I might have to move.

Pulp my cam and moved on. Seems to me the animals did the same thing cause there is no activity in there now
