« on: August 14, 2013, 07:51:30 AM »
I gained some access to property that is overrun with raccoons and after I get my deer I will be working that property.  I am really intrested in a mount or rug and I am looking for ideas.  Please post them up

I wish I had some hounds to hunt them with :'(  I will be using shotgun since I am in a weapons restriction area.  Any recommendations on shot size for a coon?

Shoot them with a good pellet gun at least 1250fps. I use to double lung coons in my yard in the tops of evergreen trees and drop them with one shot.

Bunch of rug pics online.

They are pretty cool.

My brother in-law use to hunt them with his hounds. Told him I would be interested in a big one so I could get a lifesize mount done. Talked to one of the local taxi's and he wanted $850 for a coon mount. Thought he was crazy so cut the tail off and threw it in the trash.

Funny to see this.  I just drug a big one out of the corner buried in my garage that I never finished.   He rivals the worst mount award at the moment.

if anyone is looking for a very nice coon i have one in the freezer, that i shot out of a tree at my house, it was winter time and the hide is absolutly perfect, if i remeber right he was about 15 to 18 pounds, cant really remeber but he was in awesome shape, and he has been frozen from the time i killed him in a burlap sack so i am sure the hide would still be in great shape, pm me if interested in it...its free, i would like to tan it but with baseball startn up again and school and of course deer season, time is short, otherwise i am just gonna sjkin it and dry it....

Climbing, customer was going to hang it on his fire place like it was climbing up.

I don't have any pics, but one of our chiefs has a very fierce looking stuffed coon with teeth showing.  That thing has been found in lockers, truck seats, under desks, near dumpsters, and anywhere else some unsuspecting firefighter might find it.  Needless to say that shorts needed cleaning after being found.   :chuckle:
