late season archery hunt grayback unit
« on: August 18, 2013, 09:14:52 PM »
I hunt the grayback unit in the late season at the end of november and I had some good bucks on trail camera but once season started we didnt see anything except for on the drives in. I hunt around grayback mountain and was wondering if there was anyone else that hunts this unit in the late season. I know alot of guys came up empty handed cuz we didnt get the cold weather we were looking for. I hunt out of a treestand usually but thinking about trying to do some spot and stalk this year. what kind of hunting stratagies do you guys use on these benchbucks?

All of the private timberland in that area is closed through the rest of fire season.  That could be right up until your season opens.  Which would be a good thing for you.  But the shootable bucks are smart and tend to hole up on the rez until enough nasty weather sets in.  So my tip is pray that it stays dry and closed until your season, then pray for lots of deep snow.  There are some that hide out on our side.  There is a good article in one of the recent outdoor magazines about a guy who gets a lot of deer on public land.  He had some real good advice- hint, hint...

Bow hunt it every year durring late, Always see several decent bucks and at least one Good buck, Ive walked under a few treestands while still hunting, Did You see a cougar last season?(Talked to one guy sitting in his stand who did).
A hunt based only on trophies taken falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be, time to commune with your inner soul as you share the outdoors with the birds, the animals, and fish that live there”.- Fred bear
