Finshed fixing my 11-87.
« on: August 19, 2013, 08:48:11 PM »

a month ago I had pretty much had it with my 11-87, last year it was stolen, then recovered, and it just wouldnt shoot well after, you could watch it rust right before your eyes, and the sight had been broken off, along with some pretty bad scratching in the stock and reciever.

everything I could have lived with being that it was just a duck gun, and gets used pretty hard, but the fact I could not hit crap with it, had me to the point of almost selling it to buy a new gun.

after a good deep cleaning of the barrel, and pulling out the remington extended choke, and going back to a stock modified (from my 870), it seemed to actually hit where I pointed it, so I spent some money on a new front sight, and it was shooting almost as good as new.

So I started my journey of rebuilding the old gal, I bought it new, and have put 5000 or so round down the tube, from light trap loads to BBB 3" hevi metal.

I stripped the gun, cleaned the spring in the stock, got a new link, new gas seals, polished up all the internal surfaces of the receiver, cleaned and lubed the trigger group, (if you havent done that, do it, HUGE difference made) and gave her a nice flat very dark brown rustolieum paint job, my plan was to then sand out the gouges and scratches in the stock, and either dip it, or paint it camo, but I happend by a new remington brand waterfowl stock set that had already been camo'd, so on that went (still need to get a file and do a little bit of work to make it fit perfect though),

Just wanted to post up some pics, I lost the before pics somehow, but if I find them I will post them up to. it was just a synthetic sportsman that was beat up, im sure everyone has seen their share of those.

That looks pretty good to me! I just deep cleaned my Browning Silver and my 1200. Those semi's can get pretty gunked up if you dont take care of them. Its hard to tell in the pic but it looks like the gun was supposed to look that way. Good Job!

I need to get some better pics of the colors, it looks much better on hand (IMHO) the contrast between the dark brown and the camo is cool, Remington actually made an 870 this way, but it had kind of a rust color to the barrel and receiver ( or it just rusted out sitting on the shelf  :bash:)

That looks good. Been thinking of doing the same with my old 870

That's awesome you got it back man! Looks awesome. I've only got about 100 shells through my 11-87.
