Mixing grain with pellets
« on: August 15, 2013, 08:17:07 AM »
Probably a dumb question. Can you put loose powder, say 20 gr and them put a 100 pellet in after that to play around with different loads assuming of course its the same type?

I wouldn't ever mix any powder with another powder. I've seen it happen last year with a handload, by mistake, and the casing split and almost caused the kid to have serious eye injuries.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Crush a pellet and split into 5 equal parts.  Use a pellet and 1/5 for your 120g load.

I had troubles years ago with a delayed reaction using pellets.  One of the muzzle shops recommended I use a small amount of powder first, then stack my pellets on top.  It worked better, but I ended up going with straight powder.

Single pellets make for great plinking/range loads.

They're also handy for reloads when your hands are shaking from adrenaline.

When it's time to kill something, go with loose.
