17 HMR Help
« on: October 23, 2008, 10:16:18 PM »
I'm looking to get a 17HMR just for target shooting with an open sight.
I also know most if not all of these rifles are designed for a scope mount; however it should be easy for a good gunsmith to tap some holes for my choice of sights.
These are the specs that I'm looking for. Any help/suggestion is appreciated.
1. Stainless barrel.
2. Thumbhole stock.
3. The heavier the better. Ideally 8 1/2 lbs.

Thanks in advance.

Would using a red dot scope meet your needs?? They are good for closer ranges.

I really need to use the same peep sight as my muzzleloader to practice for steady off-hand shooting.
Thanks

If you're going to shoot it a lot,you might consider a .22LR as well. The ammo for a .17 is pretty spendy.

I have a .17HMR,and a .22LR. I can shoot the .22 about 10x as much as the .17 for the same amount of money.
