When did the artificial light rule take effect? Is it any artificial light period? Or any light with a power source plugged into a vehicle?

It has been around a little while, can't say for how long, but it has to do with dates and areas open for modern firearm deer & elk.

Page 70 in the reg book:

Night Hunting and Hound Hunting
During Deer and Elk Hunting Seasons

Hunting at night:
• Bobcat and raccoon may be hunted
at night during established bobcat
and raccoon seasons, EXCEPT it is
unlawful to hunt bobcat and raccoon
at night during the months of
September, October, or November
in any area open to a modern
firearm deer or elk season.
• Coyote may be hunted at night
year round, EXCEPT it is unlawful
to hunt coyote at night during the
months of September, October,
or November in any area open to a
modern firearm deer or elk season.

It is not so much about the use of artifical lights, as the regs only specify that big game cannot be hunted with the aid of artifical lights.
It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...

The area probably isn't open to modern firearm deer or elk season for the rest of this month and for the first part of October, so spotlighting might be legal for about 6 or 7 more weeks.  Probably ought to be night hunting those damn yotes............save your pet and help save some deer from those yotes.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

I use a spotlight with a red lens on my AR's quadrail for night hunting. Runs on CR123's. Remote switch for easy on/off.
