Southpaw .22 LR ---- Savage Mark II vs. CZ-452
« on: August 17, 2013, 09:13:47 PM »
Before I go hunting for my first dream buck with a .308 I figure as a new hunter, I owe it to the animal to make sure my shots are straight and true. So in keeping with the left handed bolt action (to build muscle memory), I have found these two rifles to be the only ones available.

The Savage runs about $200-259ish, while the CZ is in the low to mid $400's. I'd like to here from any of you who are familiar with these rifles and possibly help me in making a decision by listing advantages and disadvantages.

Thanks

i've had a CZ452 for several years.  it's a real shooter, that's for sure, and definitely not a bad looking gun.  doesn't have that "cheap .22" feel to it.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

I have 3 CZ rimfires.
All shooters.
Get the $15 trigger kit and you will be amazed at how it shoots.
If you're not, there is a very active market for used CZs....Much better resale than Savage.

I think the general consensus you'll get is that the CZ's are a lot "nicer" in terms of looks, fit and finish, etc. I also think you'll find that both of them are shooters. I don't think that you'd go wrong with either one. It's just a matter of what you're looking for in a rifle and what your budget is. $400+ is a lot for me to spend on a rimfire rifle that you'll still have to put glass on, although a scope for a .22 does not have to break the bank.

I've never owned a Cz but I have shot several, do all of heir factory triggers suck that bad ?

I will say that all the mk ii savage rim fires I have shown have been extremely accurate.  Take them out of the box and shoot, no work required.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Going with the Savage, it seems like the best buy for me at this time. Plus with a good inexpensive scope, I believe I'll have a pretty good plinker. Thanks for all the input guys!^-^

I'm not sure of your plan here. Are you going to use the 22 to hone skill's with the 308? Nothing wrong with that but I'd suggest practicing with the 308. This close to hunting season is a little late to hone up on shooting skills with anything other than the rifle your gonna hunt with.

Don,
I am fairly new to rifle shooting and don't want to develop bad habits i.e. flinching.
