canning apples and blackberries?
«

I just got a canner that I haven't used yet and have a bunch of apples and blackberries around the house. Any recipes or ideas to use these up would be greatly appreciated.

"The Ball Blue Book - Guide to preserving" has recipes for both apples and black berries as well as a lot of instructions.
A lot of sites and recipes will reference this book.

canning applesauce, apple butter. black berry jam or jelly. You'll find them in the canning book.

Sorry to go off track, but you can combine blackberry and apple, build berry apple pies, freeze them on a cookie sheet, then vacu-pack them. They will last for years in your freezer, ready to bake...

It depends on the type of apples? Are they soft early apples that would cook down nice for applesauce? Then make applesauce or apple butter. If they are harder apples you can cut them up and can apple pie filling. I love doing that, it makes it so easy when you want an apple pie, just make a crust and ad the jar of pie filling and bake. Easy! For blackberries you can do jam/jelly. If you want to leave out the sugar I suggest using Pomona pectin. You can use it with no sweetener or honey or any other sweetener. Makes the jam actually taste like the fruit and not just sugar. Of course you could press your apples too and make cider or get real creative and make hard cider.
