Tape marks on warthog skull

Hey guys. More skull help.

My warthog made it back to the states safely, but either the shipper or taxidermist in Africa used wide tape to keep the skull and jaw together. As tape is known to do, dried reside has been left behind very prominently across the snout.

Obviously, this isn't a typical deer skull where I can be confident in getting another ine next year. How can I safely remove the tape markings?

Try Goop Off in a hidden place and see what it does in a couple days..

MEK or Acetone should work and both are a "degreaser" so you shouldn't have any issues.

 Lacquer Thinner usually works best on tape residue. Not sure on the more porous bone, but works well on antlers, horns, and tusks.

Denatured alcohol might work, too. As stated above, try it in hidden spots first.

I would go with the Acetone. It should take the residue off without any problems and alot of taxidermists use this as a degreaser anyways.

I second Acetone.  Do not scrub it though or the residue will push down in the pours, cracks and collect dirt and dust just recreating the same marks over time.

i have no idea how it may react with bone but, lighter fluid works great for getting rid of any adhesive residue.  just make sure your not smoking or near any flames if you try it.

I'll keep that in mind. 

Thanks, guys.  I haven't touched the hog head yet because I've been completing a couple skull mounts.  And then bear season came along.
