Spokane gunsmith for Marlin 1895
« on: September 04, 2013, 09:52:25 PM »
Purchased a Marlin 1895 45-70 a few months ago and have been out to shoot it a couple times and is definitely in need of a trigger job. I am fairly comfortable with doing drop in stuff (happy trigger kit) but have heard you can clean up the factory triggers and get them down to around the 3.5-4 lb range. I was also thinking of polishing some of the action. Would I be better off spending the money on a happy trigger kit and some fine emery or to take it to a gunsmith? I have used Brock's in the past but heard too many horror stories about them recently.

Says gunsmith required for install, but mine was drop in. Check the reviews for comments on the extent of fitting people have done.

I am real happy with mine (lighter and more crisp).  I also cleaned up a lot of rough edges in the action and corrected a feed failure issue.  They are pretty simple machines, really, and you should be able to be able to clean up the action pretty easily.  Just don't go after it with a chop saw or go about changing geometry or removing ounces of metal, and you should be fine.
