Where not to hunt high buck
« on: August 19, 2007, 04:45:08 PM »
Well I just got back from a 16 mile backpack trip, which was also used to scout for the upcomming high buck season.  My brother and I went in to Jade Lake in Necklace Valley, located off highway 2 up the Foss river.  We didn't see a dang thing.  We also talked to a group of youth corps people that were doing trail repairs and they said that they had been up there for 2 weeks, are far back as 11 miles, and saw 1 bear.  That was it.  Anyone have any other places that are a bust so we can avoid them?  I am not asking where you all are hunting, just what places have been a bust in the past or so far this year.
"I think I have a fish"
"probably bottom"
"bottom doesn't head shake!"

Not sure if I would consider the following places a bust, but are areas that are definately overcrowded during the high hunt, any trail pretty much in the Lake WEnatchee Ranger district, especially buck creek pass and spider meadows, The Glacier PEak gets hit much harder than the Alpine lakes wilderness areas.  Maybe try some of the trails off the Icicle Creek drainage for some solitude, lots of country in there and its good deer country.
