skokomish river
« on: September 10, 2013, 08:45:01 AM »
Any of you guys fish the September 15th season for salmon on the Skokomish? Wondering if its anything like the August fishery. More interested in the lower part that runs into the sound.   Thanks

Its all silvers at that time of year. A few chum will be rolling into the river. And a few straggler dark kings. Silver fishing is decent at best, not the big size fish like the old days. Last year I didn't see many breaking the 10lb mark, most 5 to 8lbs.
Its definitely worth fishing though

in all the years i fished that river, i don't ever recall the september silvers being big, mostly jacks with the larger runs running 4 or 5lbs.

back before the state really screwed up the seasons, and it was a 1 fish limit until october, i used to love fishing down there because the hordes of people fishing for kings had gone home and wouldn't put the effort in for one silver.  i could walk miles of river and toss a split shot with a little cluster of eggs and hook a fish every couple casts some days.  my guess with a 4 fish limit starting in september it's gonna be crowded at best, and with that kind of pressure on the fish they'll probably be lockjawed pretty bad.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Just get out the old skokie rig 8' leader and a piece of a black yarn ;) ! Remember to yell real loud so everyone can here you "HEY ITS IN THE MOUTH!!!!!!!!!!"

The fish in that river are great biters if you can get away from the crowds of snaggers but the fishing should be good if you can find a spot to get away from them! Glob of eggos is still the ticket down there for catching fish!

Good Luck and Post some pics its always nice to see fish from my old home river!
