204 late whitetail tag change of plans, a little advice.
« on: September 17, 2013, 08:29:51 PM »
My buddy and I drew the late whitetail tag for the east okanogan unit 204. Originally  we had planned on hunting Bonaparte/Lost lake. I touched base with my pals who hunt that area regularly and located a few haunts during an August scouting trip. Since then my buddy has drawn the Eder Ranch Permit for the hunt. Question to you guys, Mt hull looks like good area near the National forest boundaries. Is it worth pulling from my plans or should I make the drive from Oroville each day to hunt the east side of the unit? I'm headed to Montana from nov 12-Dec 3 so I'm hunting the first week of the late hunt, that gives me the new moon and a little luck on my side. Any advice would be appreciated, even a  or :bdid: to Oroville. Thanks

I hunt Mt Hull mainly for Muleys as my dad lives there. I see a few WT while I'm there can get some nice ones coming out of the Orchards. My suggestions smoke up some salmon and bring a few cases of beer and try securing some private land close to the Orchards I hunt this property yearly and with no one hunting this time of the year might be a good time to get in...

10-4 on the smoked salmon trigger happy, probably sending some over with my buddy for his scouting trip in early October before the general opener and taking some more with us for the trip. Had we known that he'd be hunting the Eder unit earlier I would have focused on that side of the unit in August. I try not to make a habit of showing up in the 11th hour with gun in hand asking for permission to hunt.
