new to water fowl
« on: October 28, 2008, 09:26:02 AM »
so i searched the forums and found a little info but i havnt done any water fowl hunting yet but recently found out that i have access to a cabin over by mardon...

so i was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of some good areas to do some walking and jump shooting. any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated.

no boat, no dog, no decoys  :(

i dont have a dog either and let me tell you, sometimes retrieving birds is a pain in the @$$   :bash:. before i have packed around a little fishing rod with a treble hook and a weight. Or those straight line tools that are used in construction (i dont know the name, but they are on a spool that spin and have the little handle.\, kindof look like a chalk line), with a weight on it and try to loop it over the bird and pull it in.

as far as spots go im not familiar with the area and i am new to duck hunting myself.

Good luck!

Jump shooting works fine.  I also use a little ice fishing pole with a treble hook as my
retriever.  Hopefully getting a dog next spring!

Use a piece of broomstick with treble hooks. it floats so you can manuver it up to the duck. Hunt smaller stuff so cripples can't get waway from you.

if a duck is wounded on the water and swimming away and you don't have a dog SHOOT IT because it most likely will get away.
