Idaho
« on: September 25, 2013, 09:38:43 AM »
Looking to do a non resident deer hunt in Idaho with the daughter last minute. We had an illness in the family and the early season was not doable for us. Was going to do montana but Deer tags are sold out. Never hunted Idaho but figured we could work something in, would have to be in November , I see there is a season for archery wich would work for us. Any idea in a general area( no honey holes)would be helpful. Thank you.

You can hunt muleys in the Panhandle (during the rut), but NOT an easy hunt.  Whitetails of course.  There are just LOTS of oppurtunities.  Not as cheap as they used to be.  Go online and check out their regs.

10a should have a few running around, I bet any unit central to unit 1 is good for whitetails in nov. they come out of the wood work in the rut.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Its a good hunt if you have salt and know what you are doing.  Not for the timid or meek.  Not sure age and how tough the daughter is.  I haven't done it since they raised the $$$.  I just pack the camera instead.  I know a lot of folks enjoy the whitetail action down south.

I would bet that there will be Montana tags available in the future.  You just have to keep checking the website and you can try calling too.

Were you able to find or kill any mule deer in unit 1?  I have hunted up there a few times and have yet to see a muley.  The first year I hunted it I spent 3 or 4 days concentrating on mule deer in the higher elevations with no luck.  I also never saw any WT's up high.

Unit 1 is a good hunt in November. The tag and hunting license for a NR adult is around $468.  I also think that youths under a certain age get a reduced price in Idaho? You can hunt the panhandle till the end of Nov. for whitetails and mule deer. You can also shoot a whitetail doe if the weather isn't cold enough for the bucks to start rutting, because if you haven't been able to pattern them and the weather isn't agreeing then you're pretty much wasting your time.

I've been lucky enough to get a few bucks up there, and there are mule deer but like someone else said you have to be patient and work for it. If you want any more details PM me and I'll help you out as much as I can.
