Scouted for the Mt. Spokane South youth tag today.
« on: September 29, 2013, 07:53:39 PM »
Started at Thompson Creek and drove around a bit. Not much because I wanted to cover as much ground as possible. Did see one small bull.

Next we went to Mt. Spokane. Saw one big bull. We spent about 40 minutes there driving the roads, but the road was starting to get greasy so we came out.

Does one of these areas have better pottential than the other? Are we better off in a different area, perhaps of Blanchard road? We plan on hunting the 3day Veterans weekend Nov. 9-11. Do I need to plan more time? The boy is 11 and I'm confident in his shooting to 150 yards.

The Thompson Creek drainage is a sure bet for a cow moose, lots of them in that area, by Nov a lot of the of the trees will have dropped their leaves so you will be able to see much more ground, (and moose)

I had the youth tag in 2005 and killed my cow on top of roundtop mountain. That was before they split it into north and south though. I'm not sure if roundtop is in the south part of the unit.  :twocents:
