It had to happen eventually
« on: October 02, 2013, 10:24:25 AM »
I had my first ever hangfire.  Unfortunately it happened on a live target.   :bash:

Mature mule deer doe at 75 yards, would have filled my second deer tag   :'(

Oh well, I'm unemployed until the Republicans cave in (they're professionals at it) and can spend some more time out there.

I guess I'm feeling a little feisty.

I'm as conservative as anybody on here but let's just say I'm not too confident in Boehner and his folks.

Sad to say it.

I guess I'd have to say, "Why should it be up to one side or the other to "cave in"?  Seems to me that both sides,( and I got to tell you, there should be only one side) are unwilling to compromise.   :dunno:

I didn't mean to say that Repubs should cave-in to anything.  I'd like to see them all take a page out of Cruz's book and stick to what we elected them to do.

Trust me, I'd go without my job for a year if O-Care could be unfunded.

I had that happen too actually the gun never fired, just the cap.  The bear got angry though and "stuck around" long enough to get a full dose a few seconds later.

And that's why I'll waste half a  dozen caps popped to make sure I don't have any oil in the nipple before I pour in a load and I always make sure I seat the cap down good and tight. Better luck next time

Hope the gooberment gets their stuff together and gets you back to work. Maybe if their paycheck were affected they'd move a bit fast :chuckle: yea like that would really hurt them with their 170,000 a year jobs  :bash:  One of buds that's going with me tomorrow to head for elk camp is in the same boat with ya. Had his leave all setup but now he may not have to use as much  :dunno:

Your avatar pic cracks me up every time I see it.

We had our first truly bad musket cap on sunday. My cousin had a stud dead to rights at 30 yards and the firing pin dropped  but the cap did not even fire. It was that bad. Not sure what happened to it but to say we all were sick was a under statement. I had a couple back in my #11 days. Killed one buck with a hang fire. Not sure how I still killed him but I did and had a couple caps snap and not go off.

Yeah #11s are weak sauce compared to these 1081s.  I've shot both in the same gun/powder with a lot of hangfires and misfires from the #11s.  Thankfully it always happened on the range.

Last year, I was hunting a beautiful piece next to the Toutle River.  I had missed a buck, wounded a bull (shot the shoulder with PRB), and had hiked through cold, wet, and getting dark for over 6hrs straight.  Almost too dark for shooting light, I emerge from old growth and start walking a gravel road to my truck.  Came around a corner in the road and there stood a smaller bull, but totally legal.  He stared at me, and I at him.  I leveled the sidelock, and got absolutely nothing but a loud SNAP.  Pulled out my ol' 45lc and finished the job.  Nawww, but I sure wanted to :chuckle:

I always use musket caps. They throw way more fire in the hole than 11's.
Never had a hangfire with them.

gotta get you some REAL black powder if you want instant ignition. I have a cabelas hawken that just flat out sucks with pyrodex, igniting t7 is like trying to light coal with a match in this rifle. 2F clogged up the powder channel. A nice gun but a real pain in the butt.
